Introduction
Introduction
At the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors is a fundamental priority. Each year, we reaffirm this commitment by publishing the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR). This report not only fulfills our obligations under the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (the Clery Act), as amended by the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA) and the Stop Campus Hazing Act, but also serves as a vital resource for our community.
Prepared by the Office of Preparedness and Response, the ASFSR brings together data, policies, and prevention programs from across the university. Contributors include the UIC Police Department; UIC School of Law Campus Safety and Security Department; Office of Environmental Health and Safety; Office of the Dean of Students; Campus Housing; Office for Access and Equity; Wellness Center; Women’s Leadership and Resource Center; UIC campus safety and security authorities; regional campus authorities; and local authorities and law enforcement agencies whose jurisdictions include UIC-owned or -controlled properties.
This year’s report presents crime statistics for incidents reported in 2022, 2023, and 2024 that occurred within UIC’s Clery geography, as well as fire statistics from on-campus student housing facilities. Beyond statistics, the ASFSR outlines:

Message from the Chancellor
Message from the Chancellor
Dear Campus Community:
At the University of Illinois Chicago, the safety, security, and well-being of every member of our community is paramount. It is a responsibility we share as students, faculty, staff, and partners. In service to this goal, we are pleased to present the 2025 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. It reflects the work of our leaders, safety professionals, and community members to make UIC a safe place for all.
Our urban setting requires us to remain proactive and innovative. Over the past year, we have enhanced our approach to safety through new technologies, expanded services, and community-centered strategies:
This fall, as we launched our campus safety training, I emphasized that our commitment to safety extends well beyond policies. It calls on each of us to stay vigilant, remain aware, and have the confidence to speak up when something seems wrong. Safety depends on all of us being alert and looking out for one another.
On behalf of the UIC leadership team, the Chancellor’s Emergency Operations Policy Group, and all our many dedicated safety partners, thank you for your ongoing commitment to each other and to our wonderful university.
With regards,
Marie Lynn Miranda, PhD
Chancellor, University of Illinois Chicago
